Historically, purple has conveyed royalty, nobility, and bravery. In the military, we learn that purple means jointness. It is a color that symbolizes unity, peace, and cooperation. These are qualities I would like for us to recapture in our district—blue and red working together—but we cannot sacrifice our principles on the altar of individual autonomy. For a new dawn to rise in the 51st, we need to work together and remember that individual freedom is always accompanied by personal responsibility.
